Kalamazoo Valley Community College

Kalamazoo Valley Community College is a fully accredited institution of higher education. We were established by the State of Michigan and the local community to offer one-year certificate and two-year associate degree programs. Our mission includes preparing students for immediate employment upon completion of their program of study, and preparing students to successfully transfer to a four-year college or university.
The majority of our students are from the surrounding community and enrolled on a part-time basis. There are over 130 international students are enrolled at KVCC, representing 46 different countries from around the globe.
KVCC has two campuses, one in
downtown Kalamazoo and another
eight miles west of the city center. KVCC also governs the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, a public
museum of history, science and technology.
Insurance Course Series

The good news continues! Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) continues online classes. Online classes are available 24/7 — any time that works into your schedule — and can be taken anywhere there is a computer. Taking these classes will 1) give you basic insurance knowledge, 2) allow you to earn college credits and/or 3) 21 MI CE credits if you need them, 4) provide others in the class to discuss topics with and 5) an instructor to help with your learning experience. (Another fee and process is needed for CE credits).
The following courses will be offered online for the KVCC winter semester:

BUS 236 - Principles of Insurance & Risk Management — This course is an introduction to the concept of risk, the process of risk management, the concept of personal and business insurance, including fundamental doctrines, social values, loss exposures and protection, insurance regulation, insurance carriers, reinsurance, marketing, underwriting, and claims adjusting.

BUS 237 - Personal Insurance — This course provides an overview of the personal insurance business, including property and liability loss exposures, life and health loss exposures, and personal risk management. The personal auto and homeowner's policy will be discussed in detail along with other personal property and casualty contracts. The course will also provide an introduction to financial planning an in-depth discussion of major life and health insurance coverages. Prerequisites: BUS 201 (recommended).

BUS 238 - Commercial Insurance — This course covers policy provisions and concepts common to various commercial multiple-line property and casualty contracts. Prerequisites: BUS 236, BUS 237.

BUS 239 - Insurance Service and Statutes — This course provides the foundations of customer service for the property and casualty insurance agency business. Designed to help you gain an understanding of continuous improvement principles and develop the customer focus you need to attract and keep customers. The course is also a study of the Michigan Insurance Code.

registering online using the link below. Please register an "UNCL" - unclassified,
not seeking a degree or certificate from KVCC. Should you desire to
seek a degree; that step can be completed at a later date and this class
will be included in your completed college course work. It
usually takes a day to process the application, then you can go online
and register for the class.
