Scholarships

One of the biggest obstacles facing those wanting to enter the insurance industry is paying for educational courses at community and four-year colleges. Fortunately, through the generosity of several MAIA-affiliated groups (MI Future, YAC and Local Associations), 9 scholarships worth more than $10,000 are currently available to those seeking a career in the independent agency system. All 2010 Scholarships have been awarded. Check back in the Fall for information about and applications for our 2011 Scholarships.

MI Future Undergraduate Insurance Scholarships: $1,000

Grange Insurance Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
(In honor of Grange Insurance's  high level of commitment and support to the foundation.)

Oakland County Local Association Insurance
Scholarships:
$1,500 (2 available)
Awarded by the MI Future Board on behalf of the Oakland County Agents Association with primary consideration to Oakland County residents.

You may apply for more than one scholarship as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. There is only one application for all of the scholarships listed above. You must indicate for which scholarship(s) you are applying.

Shawn Brown Scholarship: $2,000
Awarded: Annually by the Young Agents Council (YAC) and MI Future

 Criteria:

  • Be studying for a career in the independent agency system (does not have to be in an insurance-specific curriculum).
  • Plan to pursue a career in the independent agency system after graduation (preference is given to those who plan to seek employment within the independent agency system).
  • Must be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year with at least one full year of undergraduate school remaining.


Among additional criteria used to evaluate scholarship submissions are grade point average, course work, career goals, extracurricular activities, references, sponsoring agencies and cover letter.
